So why aren't there other threads about HS girls getting raped? Aren't those victims being downplayed? Does it have to involve a guy in a skirt to receive attention from the public?
Sadly, basically the answer is yes. The facts of the matter:
1) The perpetrator WASN'T transgender
2) the school DIDN'T allow trans people to use their bathroom of choice, at the time of the assault
**And yet the assault still happend**
Somehow, the main talking points are why trans people shouldn't be able to use women's bathrooms because that means anyone could walk in and assault someone. Despite that *exact* thing happening in the absence of any trans-inclusive bathroom policy.
People are willing to sideline the fact a cisgender boy assaulted a cisgender girl and instead raise concerns about trans kids. Once again there's a convenient deflection in the form of a minority, to take the heat from actual failings and avoid taking responsibility.
