The answer is the internet makes it seem crazier because now you’re crazy thoughts in your head make it online. “Tin foil hat” wearers have been around forever. Look up tin foil hat wearers if you don’t know. They are basically the old days version of what QAnon is today. They believed all kinds of crazy stuff and if you didn’t agree with them, you were brainwashed or controlled by the system. As rojo said, prominent people used to get assassinated. The world has always been crazy and chaotic. Now we get to see it with a few swipes of our fingers.
It’s also important to note none of the crazy stuff is new thinking. People thinking vaccines are mind control devices has existed for decades. Critical race theory is decades old. All the confusing non-binary transgender stuff is decades old. It’s only recently they have come back around as mainstream topics because, in my opinion, as a society we’ve reached a level of productivity such that people have nothing to do except sit in a room conjuring up new ideas for these decades old theories in an attempt to gain stardom.
