Sheesh just watched the plain ole NBC feed. It's blindingly obvious. Jewett clipped Amos. Neither was at fault. The officials were, however, at fault. Why on earth was Amos reinstated? What about all the other numerous similar incidents in the Olympics over history? They didn't get reinstated!
Amos didn't finish because Jewetts body became an obstacle in his path, bringing him down. Not because he was clipped. And not because he clipped Jewett. He ran into an obstacle.
Jewett, meanwhile, ran into no onebstacle, which technically, per the rules, is the same as pulling out of collapsing.
The rules are technical and not subjective for a reason. More like a soccer ref deciding between a handball and a ball to hand. " If a players arms are in an unnatural position..." Regardless of whether the player intended to obstruct the ball or not, or whether it was from behind, or didn't see it; it's a handball if the hands are extended in an unnatural position.
Same on track. If a runner runs into an obstacle, he deserves justice. If a runner falls with no obvious and illegal impediment, that's part of racing and deserves no reinstatement.
HOW HARD IS THIS TO UNDERSTAND?
Jesus Christ, how the hell is this still an issue. Jewett was tripped by Amos and then fell and brought him down. All video shows it. Jewett didn’t fall by himself. His foot was clearly kicked and it hit his leg and he went down like all of us would. Put them both back in the final and all is well.
