Blown away. Just found out that my friend Tom Fleming has passed away from a heart attack. Just last summer Tom and I drove from Portland to Eugene for the Olympic Trials and spent a lot of time at the trials catching up with old friends.

Tom was the 1973 and 1975 New York Marathon champ and was runner up at Boston in 1973 and 1974.In July 2014, Tom was inducted into the National Distance Running Hall of Fame in Utica, NY.

He won 27 of the 63 marathons that he entered against the best in the world.

He was quoted as saying "Somewhere, someone in the world is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win."

Godspeed, my friend. There's going to be one hell of a post race party in heaven tonight.
