I had never heard of this book until I saw it mentioned on this site. I ended up reading the whole trilogy and enjoyed it a lot. I didn't really care about the feasibility of the stats. I only read fiction for entertainment and insight into human character. I thought Once A Runner had both. He captures the mentality of preparing for a tough race pretty well, as well as the dumb-assed personalities that can be found in sports bureaucracy. It wasn't the best book I've ever read, but it wasn't a waste of time either.
