Regardless of the time, the real question is why bother?
A fast mile has absolutely nothing to do with running sub 3 and getting to Boston, which is Nick's stated goal...I thought he had a coach? He's all over the place.
He needs to work on his endurance and his pacing and probably drop a good deal of weight too.
Unless he doesn't want to go sub 3 anymore and his goals have changed.
It's probably already been said through all this nonsense but it's May. He's not running a marathon any time soon. Improving at the mile as a recreational runner trying to become an age group type isn't a bad idea. You're only going to lower what is possible for the marathon. You still have to do the training & build endurance but that'll come for him in the summer/fall if he can run a marathon in the fall.
As for everything else, he makes content that a lot of people like. If you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to watch. I'm pretty impressed that someone that jacked can run 4:53 on the roads.
Daniels gives a 4:53 a 2:40 marathon. I'm sure this guy will have more difficulty holding shorter distanced conversions but he should be able to give sub-3 a go.
