My bad!
Do we know Germany's logic behind the Oct. 24th date?
I doubt they do... Such a random date? Why not the beginning of a month?
If corona virus goes on for half a year, there won't be any races in a long time, yet at the same time having people stay in their houses for 6 months isn't a workable solution either.
October 24th is the end of the autumn school break in Berlin. Note that the date is Berlin specific. Bavaria has cancelled octoberfest, but nothing beyond that so far. Germanywide all events with a large number of people are cancelled at least until end of August, but it's the task of the states to determine how many people are a large event and whether to extent the ban beyond end of August.

There is a huge difference between being able to leave your house and being in a setting with 40,000 other runners in relative close proximity along with hundreds of thousands of fans at that event, coming and going back to all ends of the world, having an expo, etc where you are dealing with a highly contagious virus that is spread airborne.

Thank you! Very informative.
I'm hoping it get rescheduled for early November maybe?
The race as we know it can't take place.
Recently I heard a rumour they we're trying to set it up as elite only or something similar. No more than 1000 participants. Not sure if that would be still feasible.
Thanks to the original poster for actually providing a link!
I ran Berlin in 2017 and it was my favorite race outside of Boston. Highly recommended it for anyone interested. I got in through marathontours.com and they were excellent.

Yeah it seems that the NYT article was a bit misleading. The race hasn't put out a clear statement. They could try to set up an elite only/top-5,000 type race or postpone to a later date.
How cold is late October Berlin? I imagine it will be near freezing in the mornings?
In any case what are the chances they get Kipchoge and Bekele to sign on. With colder temperatures, that course, and those two could we have a legit sub 2?
Shouldn't be much colder than Frankfurt which is usually Held at that time of the year.
Works well there.
Ok I looked it up. Looks like around 10 degrees colder in late October compared to late September. Low 40s compared to low 50s. In marathon terms is that cooler temps enough to knock 1-2 minutes off?
Honestly seems like you’re more likely to have cooler weather in October. Average high around 50F average low around 38F or so. Average less rain in October than September as well.
