I love running (obviously, I come here), despite being slow at the Marathon. LOL.
But one thing I've noticed...running (track/XC/roads/ultras) caters to upper-middle-class runners. Most have gone to a 4-year college. Many have MAs/MBAs/PhDs here and make 250k a year.
Women--RW focuses on Women now. A lot of women are sub-3:30 marathoners. And many of those are well-educated and make good $.
I.e. I knew a female XC coach who was a teacher; another female was a doctor and ran sub-3:30 and is in a running club in Cbus. Males even moreso (2:50 and lower) and they also are well-educated and make good $, and a few of those guys have MBAs. Now none of them are Joanie or Meb but they are very fast for their baseline ages.
Boston expo, from what others have told me, is mainly composed of female purchasers. A lot of $ in that.
Is there a correlation between socioeconomic status and distance running? Or am I wrong?
