Sounds like capitalism lol.
Coulda cut him to $400k (still generous amount) and spared the 7
This is an interesting development. I wonder how much their revenues are down. I mean I know personally how devastating this thing has been to our revenue so I imagine very few businesses aren't being clobbered but I never really thought about the fact that they probably do make a lot off of these amateur events. If they get fees for 8000 events that adds up real quick.
One of the articles says the Trials brings in $4 million. Is that profit? One would think, since that would still come in next year, they could just get a bank loan.
Or are revenues not really that much down and this just a prudent financial move to get the govt to pay the employees instead of USATF? With the enhances stimulus, some people can make more after getting fired and USATF doesn't have to pay them - the govt does.
For example, let's say you make $50k for USATF. You'd make more unemployed than working.
In Indiana, you can get up to $390 a week in unemployment (that's the cap, it's .47 of your salary) but the govt is adding $600 to that. So someone making 50k a year would actually make more getting fired by USATF than they would if they stayed unemployed as 990*52 is $52,480.
What was the salary of these staffers?
Another thing we wondered on our podcast is how is the Nike contract written. Is there anyway they are trying to not pay their full amount this year since their singlets won't be featured at the Olympics. Now that would devastate USATF's finances . Anyone know if Nike is paying?
Sad, I feel for these people, but really USATF in big part to blame due being part of the "cancellation culture" and pushing travel bans and shut downs.
They should have been pushing back against cancellations, to go ahead with all events, especially the Olympics, and travel.
Considering the majority of people that USATF represent by and large won't even get symptoms of COVID, who was USATF trying to advocate for? The obese? They cancelled JO's, none of those kids will even get any symptoms.
I don’t know if they still condescend to insure road races, but decades ago I know of an instance where they extorted a race as part of granting standard insurance. Gangster wannabes.
As long as I am taking shots, who the hell is the NCAA standing up for? Certainly not student athletes. And the Universities, why arent they pushing back agaisnt lock downs in defense of there students?
Virtually none of the students will even show significant symptoms, let alone die.
Who's standing up for the little guy?
Do only the old and rich matter?
Wonder what NYRR is paying their top guy or gal with no races being run. In 2012, it was like 500k.
900k for USATF CEO? Wow. Glad I'm not a member supporting that. Winner takes all economy.

A lot of their professors will die though. That's probably ok to you, just get grad students to teach all the classes..
@let’s go
The students act as a symptomatic vectors of the disease and can unwittingly infect their professors or whomever they come in contact with.

Most "members" are people who wanted to run us national championships - xc nats, club xc nats, the marathon, etc . You want to compete in these events with your buds (club xc nats) you gotta pay the grifters and crooks (usatf).
What is the CEO still getting $900k in salary in times like this when he is firing people? He should be dropped down to $50k so that other people can be paid.
In the most recent year they've made their 990 form public (2017), 1/5 of all USATF employee compensation went to the CEO. That's before you include all the side benefits like USATF contracts with his marketing company, first class flights and accommodations, etc.
How about he takes a more normal salary for a small non-profit CEO like $250,000 for a year, and keeps everyone employed?

Really? More people than ever are sitting around in their moms’ basements with nothing to do. Shouldn’t business be booming?
Out of 65 employees, only 7 of them are non-essential
Ummmm, I'm not buying it. I think that 58 should have been laid off and 7 kept. The when the country comes to its senses maybe 25 should be hired back.
They'll be hired back in a few months.
