Nah, people cannot shut down all of life to avoid one of many infections they would contract during this time that is slightly harsh and for which we have antivirals. No one would survive besides the independently wealthy.

We can simplify it by following the example of better-prepared nations like Germany.

Of course we’ll have to institute some form of healthcare, testing, tracking, PPE, and simple prevention. You know, teamwork. What a nightmare lol.

The study said that intermittent social distancing measures may be necessary through 2022. That is really not a very controversial opinion given how lousy the current response is on getting testing and vaccine studies going. And there are just too many unknowns to be talking with any confidence about a return to normal in the near future. We do not know whether people will develop lasting immunity. We do not know whether the virus will mutate and be able to evade vaccination. We do not know whether the virus will mutate and become deadlier for younger people as did the Spanish Flu.

What is obvious is that countries that get organized and are able to take early and decisive action will be able to weather this storm much better than those who deny science and try to get lucky by lifting containment measures too early. We have a long way to go on this thing. We can pretend like we can keep capitalism alive and well during all this and suffer the consequences or we can put public health first and create conditions for capitalism to return once we get this under control.

If this were the case how likely are Americans to accept this? Forget Americans I can’t see of 99% of the world population accepting these terms unless under some very real military force behind it (tanks rolling down street, forceful breaking up of crowds over ten, etc).

I’m actually more curious on how the people who are the bigger proponents of the current measures being put into place. Would you really want Trump to be the head of a police state for the next two years?

You should have figured that out yesterday. By defunding WHO Trump has guaranteed that development of a vaccine will be bigly delayed ... past 2022. Unless the entire world has access to a vaccine commerce will be dead. No more traveling to countries with no vaccine. No more buying lower cost goods from countries with no vaccine. And those countries will not buy anything from countries with vaccines out of retaliation, and because that stuff will not be affordable.
