So glad to be a runner and not need a coach or teammates. Do love the crowds at the occasional big race but other than that it's all a solo effort anyway.

This where XC could survive any budget cuts. It's very low cost to the school and any unsupervised workouts can be done by the athlete without much direction. Ok they may not all know the ideal training schedule but at the end of the day it's running.
my question is why do any distance coaches need "online workouts?"
you send training plans for the remainder of the season, and check in regularly. via whatever means you choose. this is still allowed.
anyway, my own kids have had "zoom workouts" for their scholastic sports and they're a waste time imo.
but such is this life of indiganance and righteous outrage on the 8th grade girls cafeteria table of xc/tf discussion. i hope you're all doing ok.

Exactly. Virtual workouts are more about a micromanaging coach than any actual value for any athlete.

Zoom workouts as in the runners training at the same time? This isn't a waste of time for hs'ers as it helps keep their motivation up. As a coach, I'd be worried without a team environment, I've got some guys who won't train for 6 months and won't be back for xc...
What's with all this talk of kids?
NCAA --> college --> over 18yrs old in the vast majority of cases.

The NCAA just banned even virtual workouts. According to source, NCAA has just ruled teams can not host online workouts at this time. This includes coaches are not allowed to coach athletes through video sources such as Zoom or Google Hangout. A fair decision? Or just outright irrational?

I encourage football players to accept money under the table . It is up to the NCAA to catch you , and the agents would have to whistle blow on themselves .

For the high schoolers. Now would be a good time to encourage Strava for the kids to keep each other motivated I supposed. Of course the schools would say that's too much like in person coaching.
Every state has different rules regarding coaching.
