You've confused "performer" with "performance".
Some things to consider:
"B. Ryun lacked longevity."
Ryun ran as an amateur, still he was out there as a top runner for 8 years. For 3-4 he was considered the top miler. He was not getting paid, and did not have a "professional" coach.
"C. Ryun lacked championship prowess."
Ryun had only 3 championship races available to him. 64 when he was in High School. 68 where he ran great, and 72 where he was tripped (though also not at the top of his game.).
"Centro is an incredible racer, with 2 gold's, a silver, and a bronze, along with 4th at the Olympics.
However, he lacks blazing times. "
Only two of those were Olympic Games: 1st is better than 2nd, and 4th is better than 2 no places (in fact not making the finals), but really Ryun as a record holder and his #1 rankings are vastly superior to everything else Centro has done. Centro has never been considered the best. Ryun was by far the greater runner who just happened to perform at a time when it was hard to be a "professional" runner.
Does that make him greater than Centro? I don't know. For me he is, but others can see it differently.
I think this is a very good argument. It’s close, but I have started the last 4-5 years thinking, “this is the year someone dethrones Centro in the US” only to be proven wrong over and over again. He has been bulletproof.
Its not the same at all when comparing to kipchoge's rio run. It's more like if he won the marathon in 2:14 (~women's record), and the field was jogging, leaving 20 competitors in contention with 2 miles to go, then Kipchoge ran away with it. This would have been extremely boring to watch.
