Alexi Pappas, Ben Johnson, and Rashid Ramzi. I consider all 3 to be cheaters of equal magnitude.
Come on now. I'm not a fan of switching nationalities to run in the Olympics. But comparing that to doping. Let's get real. One is clearly cheating by written rules, the other is clearly allowed. Just because you don't agree with the rule doesn't mean the person who uses the loophole is a cheater.

Came here to post Charles Jock. I have no idea how he goes from barely breaking 1:48 all year, to running 1:45 and getting qualification, to spending the rest of the year shitting the bed at 1:48 again. That's essentially how his entire career after college was but everyone else raced bad enough at the 2016 Trials for him to squeeze through.

I saw him run at Hayward Field once and he ran the 800m, took off like a rocket and everyone there thought we were about to see something insane. It turns out he was only running 600m so he hauled ass on lap 1 and down the backstretch and then pulled out. He is the darkest man I have ever seen in my life

Pappis
I know this is for who shouldn’t have been on the team but I can tell you one who SHOULD have been on the team and that’s Matt Lane. He finished 4th in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic trials 5k. He did all the work in both races only to miss by a second. Great guy too and very humble.
Gary Fanelli. Moved to American Somoa to run at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Ran 2:25. Shameful.

He was/is mostly a 1:48 guy, but has managed to pull off a decent race or two each year of his career. I would put him on-par with Christian Smith in this running

about 100% of the "professional" athletes that go.
Those terrible high divers. Forget which country. But they seemed to have a lot of fun and I enjoyed that. In fact I was glad they were there. But we're they Olympic level? Nah haha.
Well everyone named Pappas so...

Galen Rupp

Remember they allowed 9 runners in the final, so they started all on one line as opposed to in staggered lanes. I don’t necessarily believe this, but I remember at the time some speculation that maybe it helped his race.

I'll second that for Lane, super good dude, shame he missed out. Gritty competitor, really tough to beat as he always dug down and went for it, no matter what.
Carl Lewis
Nadia Comaneci
Frank Shorter
Charlie Gruber.
Really nice guy so I feel bad saying it, but I never would have guessed that he was good enough to represent USA in the 1500m.
You'd really have to post his top 5 times per year to back that claim up -- I would contend that OTC ruined him. He was constantly improving while at UC Irvine, culminating in that close loss/awesome race to Robby Andrews.
OTC ran him into the ground. He was a 400-800 runner and trained as such at UCI. Obviously he was never as good as Brazier, but cut from a similar mold.

Des Linden when she went to Olympics hurt and DNF'd quickly. Give up the spot for a healthy athlete.
People who bring this up always forget: there were no alternates! Des offered to give up her spot, but:
(1) The alternate that USATF listed was fourth place Amy Hastings, who prepared for the 10,000m and could not switch to the marathon, and
(2) USATF did not list fifth place Deena Kastor as an alternate, so she was not eligible to go.
If Des hasn’t gone, the US Olympic team would have consisted of two athletes. Since no one would gain from her non-participation, Des ran.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
