If this 'pandemic' has taught me anything it's that I must be a horrible person because I can't see it as anything but overblown.
I'm not sure EXACTLY how accurate these figures are but these are rough numbers related to death:
~25,000-30,000 people are killed PER DAY by cancer. While it is more prominent in older folks, it's quite deadly in younger people too. Especially when compared to the coronavirus.
~As many as ONE IN THREE deaths are caused by heart related issues. MANY of these are caused by preventable conditions/poor life choices such as smoking addiction and obesity.
~60 MILLION people die on average per year. The flu apparently counts for ~1% of these deaths. (The coronavirus may surpass the flu's death toll for this year, but remember that the flu has been taking people's lives EVERY year).
So far, the coronavirus has apparently killed ~87,000 people over the course of two or three months. Even the greatest pessimists would have to agree that that number is very small compared to those above.
I hear the argument that "It's only going to get worse! Many more will die!" While this may be true, even if it increased tenfold, or became twenty times larger, let's even say it kills 2 Million. I understand that this is bad. But 2 million on top of 60 million is a 3% increase the the deaths we get anually every year. Meanwhile, 150 Million are born per year and the population goes up by 90 million every year. This increase in deaths would set back the growth of the world population by roughly eight days.
I think this is a very unpleasant time for people who work in ICU as they are much busier and more at risk of infection than they normally would have been in a pre-COVID shift at work. I sympathise for those people, however you do have to consider that nobody is forced to work in ICU. They CHOSE to work there. Despite that, I do think it must be very unpleasant for them and wish them all the best. But for at least 99% of us this really is not anywhere near as much of a crisis as is being made out. Perhaps the saddest reality is going to be the mental health problems and domestic abuse caused by the lockdowns.
To anyone personally affected by it, my thoughts are with you. But they are also equally with the people personally affected by cancer, dementia, heart disease, suicide or any other causes that may result in the loss of lost ones.
This was the rantings of a horrible person. Peace out.
