Assured of what?...losing in a landslide.
I would vote for anyone, literally anyone, other than trump.
Zero morals. Zero leadership. Zero honesty. Zero self awareness. He has been a train wreck.
Bernie was Trump's best hope...Now he has to hope for a complete economic turnaround.
Trump has consistently getting just 43% of the vote vs. Biden. Not even R voter suppression and the electoral college can make up for that.
Sleepy, creepy Uncle Joe ftw!
against Fondling, Doddering Donald...
???

How you figure?
There are way more hardcore Bernie voters than Biden ones. They will write him in on principal, which effectively will be a vote for Trump.
He doesn’t has to hope for an economic turnaround, this whole “pandemic” nonsense was designed so there would be an economic turnaround in the months leading up to the election.
Democrats screwed the pooch by continually looking at septuagenarians as candidates. It’s been proven that to energize your base, you need youth:
Winners:
Obama - 47 when elected
Clinton - 46 when elected
Carter - 52 when elected
JFK - 43 when elected
Losers:
Clinton - 69 when lost
Kerry - 60 when lost
Gore - let’s be honest, shoulda won

There hasn’t been a vote yet.

How did that hardcore base turn out for Bernie in the primaries?
It's all about 6-8, maybe 10 states. Biden has a very reasonable chance to do better than Trump in those states. Bernie did not.
Some of the hardcore Bernie voters will not turn out to vote for Joe.
Joe will get the hardcore Dems and anyone who really hates trump but that will not be enough to beat the pro Trump and people happy with how things have gone who aren't necessarily trump fans. Totally agree that the Dems missed the boat picking a guy older than trump. This is the same party that dismissed McCain as too old in 2008. The only person who would beat trump without any problem would be Michelle Obama. Anything could happen under the current scenario but Trump vs. Biden looks good for Trump.

Right.
How could anyone win against that intellectual powerhouse, the above reproach, Joe Biden.
The Dems may have plans to replace him (without the voters getting to weigh in).
The Republican Führer will demolish Biden in the debates.

You're missing the point. It was obvious that Trump was going to get obliterated in the popular vote. It's going to be a joke. He is not a popular president and has never been even as he desperately tries to pretend he is. He's presiding over a recession, a public health disaster and with every passing day voters are turning on his handling of Covid-19. So voter turnout really matters as far as the few Midwestern/Southern states that Trump won narrowly that can be flipped. A lot of those voters are turned off by Bernie's perceived socialism, "radical" ideas etc. Meanwhile, those people were more than happy to vote for Uncle Joe's steady hand, and in fact did when given the chance.

Based on this post, please stop posting.
Hopefully Bernie will continue to press his agenda, an agenda which would be saving lives, putting less stress on the health care system, an agenda which would bring the average American less fear and more hope.

I feel like the choices are equally horrible.
Trump will not get the "I hate the opponent even more" bump he got vs. Hilary in 2020. Not nearly the intensity.
Trump's fortunes will likely turn on the end result of the virus. Right now it doesn't look good for him. He should be receiving overwhelmingly favorable polling but he's barely above water. Not a good sign. If it doesn't turn around for him by the time we get to November, he'll be obliterated by virtually anyone on the Democratic ticket.
In 2004 and 2008, Dennis Kucinich ran on an identical platform as Bernie in the Dem primary and was basically laughed at. He never got out of single digits in the primaries. The Democratic progressive caucus was tiny in congress.
In 2016, Bernie nearly upset one of the most powerful Dem establishment candidates in primary history by running on many of the same progressive issues that Kucinich ran on. Since then, the progressive caucus in Congress has grown and new stars like AOC and the "squad" were born.
Bernie's 2020 campaign set records for small donor fundraising and volunteer participation. A majority of Americans were now supporting proposals like M4A and $15 minimum wage. Bernie has done more to move the US towards progressive politics than anyone in the past 50 years.
Bernie's ultimate downfall was that he was too principled and too nice to be able to defeat the Dem establishment. Bernie refused to try to make deals with powerful people like Sen. Jeffries to get key endorsements because he was too principled to compromise his positions to win support from the Dem establishment. He swore off super pac money even as Warren took millions in super pac money just to run attack ads against Bernie before super Tuesday. He steadfastly refused to attack Biden, even as Harris and others landed pretty significant blows against Biden early.
But for coronavirus, Biden would have had a very difficult path to beat Trump. But some very key states are suffering due to Republican mismanagement of the virus response. Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and PA are all having a very tough time. If these states continue to suffer well into June, it will be impossible for Trump to just blame China and WHO. It will be even worse if congressional action is all just 2008 style top down relief packages that lead to a long and deep recession this summer through the fall. People will be happy to have a sundowning Biden over a completely incompetent Trump.
