Couple of things...
1) sprint timer app used to time is good but still not FAT. counts as a hand time.
2) He ran on/inside the line several times on the curves. official result is DQ.
3) Looked like 1600m to me

Reading comprehension fail.

I do agree he was all over the line on curves. Still an impressive outing.
His PR is still 4:08.
awesome! Props to him for still going for it even though the seasons cancelled. Hand timed or not that's quick.

Typical LR ahole . Solid effort in a time trial. Give him some credit
He's gonna run like 3:58 indoors next year
I agree. Great effort. Even the best runners crowd the line in workouts. So we give him 4:04 FAT if he stay off o the line - in practice.

I don't think anyone said it wasn't a great effort. But people are saying that he broke his school record and he was chasing sub 4 etc. He ran great. But it was not FAT and should be recorded as a hand time. And, he was on the line on the curves so it should not count for any kind of record. It was a great time trial practice effort that proves he is in shape to run very fast. But it should not be any kind of official record.
He can call it is PR and his coach can list it as the school record because they can do what they want. I am surprised that some of you babies have not complained about 3 guys running together. I hope we see more videos like this. I would love to see college runners and pros doing some small races.
Time to state the obvious again.
The thread title is: "HSer Matt Strangio runs 1600 in 4:03.57"
The first comment, from Green handled Knife, includes the line, "3) Looked like 1600m to me."
The second comment, from YMMV, bolds the obvious failure in reading comprehension that he points out.
After two more comments, Green Handled Knife still doesn't realize why people are questioning his reading comprehension. Hint for Green Handled Knife: It's in bold so it's easy for you to find.

I wasn’t online when this thread first popped up (perhaps you were?) but I do know that the moderators of this site sometimes edit thread titles in an attempt to better define the conversation. The downside is that it often results in individual posts making less sense. I tend to give the benefit of the doubt on these and assume the original title might have said “mile.”

Gross. SHUT UP.
An interesting exercise to see where he is fitness-wise, but this should not count for anything. Not a PR, not a Jesuit High School record as apparently they are going to call it, taking it away from Michael Stember, not a measure of anything other than what he did in a time trial.
I feel bad for the guy and all seniors who didn't get to shine this season (and even more so for the juniors who were trying to get noticed by colleges), but when there aren't other runners in the race who can get in the way, no rails or cones on the curves, no officials making sure he doesn't step inside the line on the curves (which he did), this can't be considered anything other than an interesting time trial run.
It kills people when they don't get their way. You say that it can't be counted but it will be so you are incorrect. I guess you should have stated that in your opinion it should not count. But it will count because the coach can do what he wants. Just like this kid and the coach went to a track and held a time trial with non-family members during a silly pandemic. I give them credit. I wish there were more videos being posted. There are no other sports to watch presently.

You obviously haven't been posting very long on this site. Or just don't notice details. When the mods change the title of a thread, the change only shows up on the message board home that way. However, once you click on the thread and are in it, the original title is still at the top of the thread. You can see what it was changed from. (you can check yourself next time they change a title and admit they do, click on the thread and then look at the very top and you'll still see the original title unchanged there) There's no difference on this one. So you don't need to have been on here when it popped up to know the title wasn't changed...
100% agree with you, Avenging. What is wrong with board?
This is great news. Good for this guy for going for it (referring to seeing what he can accomplish while still in HS), and pushing himself during a difficult time.
The insecurity of some of the bitter old liberal posters on here that have failed in life conceives vitriol, and they need to take their negativity elsewhere.

Have you read that Lange is going to make it the school record? It would be unusual for a coach to do so with a practice time. I wouldn't.
