If it is the case that Johnson was moved to the ICU because he is really that ill, and not out of extra caution because of his position, there is at least a 1/3 chance that he will die, possibly higher. That is according to my good friend who is an ER physician with special training treating respiratory infections. It seems likely the PM is gravely ill.

Because it's over a longer timespan, so it gives a longer period for those who have recovered to get it again. Plus there are more random occurances over that longer timespan for a person to come into contact.

I'd guess there's not a lot in it, but I'd suggest it's easier for vulnerable people to isolate for 4 weeks (with more people who have it) and weather the storm than a year (where less people have it any time).

Boris is not in ICU because the beds are nicer or because the ventilators are right there.

He's in ICU because he's on a ventilator, which always means the condition is serious.

Nothing said about a ventilator yet, except that he is in ICU in case he needs one. This is indeed serious though. At his age (55) it's a bit atypical, but he's right at the age where the lethality of the disease begins to rise steeply. If he doesn't improve under treatment, it gives the lie to the idea that Remdesivir is a miracle cure. He'll certainly be getting that drug immediately.
