Can anyone compare the IU, Notre Dame, Purdue, Butler, Indiana State and IUPUI distance programs? Im from Indiana and I'm a freshman in High School and just wanted to know your guys observations when you hear about any of these programs.

Butler and Indiana State are often the best for distance runners.
Wide variety here
IU has the best overall program especially on the middle distance side. They have great development in the 800-1500 distances and are successful in the 3K-5K and XC as well. Bloomington is a really nice area and a real good school. I know its pretty Hilly in Bloomington too and heard there's nice places to run in the area. IU deeply cares about building an all around good track team, which makes getting spots on the roster really competitive. But a program that's full of tradition that's having great success right now coming off its indoor big ten title.
Notre Dame also makes a case for the best true distance program of the schools listed. The put more emphasis on distance runners than other event groups which makes a huge difference in recruiting and scholarships given to guys. They get lots of talent especially out of state. Only major downside is cost at Notre Dame compared to IU Purdue Indiana State and IUPUI, especially if you're not getting scholarship. But the program itself is producing good results as a team in cross country and track especially with Yared and DMR national champs. Great program that goes a good job developing but also extremely competitive to make.
Purdue can also make a case as well. Purdue is a great sprinting school, so Coach Oliver does a good job getting talent and creating a program that does well at the national level. Had really good placing at the past two big ten meets and also top 15 at Nationals last fall. Another great program with development just like the other two mentioned above.
In regards to the other three. Butler is solid program, good school. But expensive and offer most of scholarship money to foreigners. IUPUI and Indiana State are average programs. Not the kind of talent of an IU, Notre Dame or Purdue but still have decently good talent. IUPUI is an all distance team so better for scholarship opportunities if you maybe not at the level to make a roster of the big 3 or maybe just don't like the big school atmosphere. Indiana State just had a real rough fall, but I've heard they've made some changes in the program so could be a sign for good things going forward in that program.
Also depends on what your wanted to study as well. IU is a great option for Health/Business related and Purdue is great option for Engineering/Pharmacy. But if I got to pick my top 2 would be IU and Purdue cause of the success of distance programs, cost and really good schools.
If you are in Indiana and actually might be good enough to run for a D1 school, perhaps consider Grand Valley St up there in Michigan. One of the best programs in D2. Obviously not on the same academic level as IU, ND, or Purdue, but you might actually win something.

One of the worst posts I’ve ever seen in my life. Butler rolls in foreigners and are terrible outside of that. ISU has only been D1 good 1 out of the last “x” years.
Purdue and Notre Dame are the best distance programs right now with excellent coaches. IU is next with Butler a little behind. Followed by IUPUI, USI, and Indiana State. Now, with ISU getting rid of Walsh, their program is going to tank.
Indiana was 2nd at the B10 XC meet while Purdue was only 4th.
What happened to Walsh?
Walsh got let go from guys program after their 8th place finish at MVCs last fall. I guess now he’s being removed from the girls program as well even after they had their highest finish at MVCs in a while with 3rd place. ISU has lost a lot of pretty good talent due to people quitting the team based on if you look at their roster. Hope the program gets it together with whoever their new coach is.
For sure hopefully they can find someone good
Walsh was a great thing for ISU. Well respected in the Indiana HS scene. Great recruiter!
I’ve heard it has a lot to do with the Track Program Director letting him go.. still haven’t heard a clear reason why though.
