Right now most non-Asian Americans feel silly wearing those masks in public but it's looking like that's going to change

YOU should wear a mask. People are dying!
Unless it's an N95, the mask doesn't keep the wearer from getting sick, so why would I start wearing a mask?
why would I do this? wrote:

It would keep you from getting other people sick even if you don't have symptoms, and might prevent you from touching your face.
Just throwing out a prediction. I'd rather not wear one but I think there will be increasing peer pressure and maybe evidence that it worked in other places.

Wigins, still calling people predicting 100k cases in the US 'utterly clueless' ?
I can't wait until my wife has to wear one!

This explains why other people might want me to wear a mask. It doesn't explain why I would wear a mask. A benefit accruing to person A will not incentivize person B to take action.

I think Wigins's view is that the actual number is closer to 100M and we're approaching herd immunity before we know it

I know that, that's why it will require peer pressure, government intervention, or some marketing gimmick to convince people wearing a mask is "cool"
The only virus spreading around the world is stupidity. All you fear mongers are idiots
There's no evidence that any form of mitigation has worked. On the contrary, there is evidence that the virus spreads so fast to so many people that it is stopped within a few weeks by the population's acquired immunity. Lessons learned are
a) very low mortality per infection, not so bad
b) not stoppable or even slowable
c) attempts to stop it can cause secondary, worse problems.
Crashing the economy is one; the massive testing putting an absurd strain on the health care system is another. The US is now seeing first hand the underbelly of Italy's "overwhelmed" health care system, with everyone who shows flu-like symptoms demanding to be tested and the vast majority turning up negative.

It will be forced on you next week no doubt.
Maybe time for a discussion on how to cope with wearing a mask while running.
Did you wear a mask during H1N1?

bump
Yep
You can't wear masks you don't have.
No one will wear a mask because none will be available.
Our local news is full of people making masks to donate to hospitals because the drs. and nurses don't even have any.
It's absurd.

Companies have been retooling to make masks and other PPE. Toyota factories in the US and Honeywell for example.

I've heard everyone's wearing them in Czech Republic. True?
