Countries who shut down, what is the strategy..? Opening up 3 weeks later and then shutting down when it pops up again? Rinse and repeat until herd immunity is reached?
How many years will that take?
What’s interesting with Sweden is that they have 105 deaths (equivalent to 3,400 deaths in US terms when adjusting for pop which is 32X less). The US has 1,997 deaths not so much less
Sweden has 3,447 total cases, which is equal to 110K in US terms (US has 120K cases)
New cases today in Sweden is 378 cases, which is equal to 12K in US terms (US had 16K)
So Sweden is a little bit ahead in terms of deaths, behind in terms of total cases and falling way behind in new cases. While schools remain open.
Why?
Yes, try to convince Ms Jones to send her kids back to school now. Good luck.
Try to ask your labor force to come back to work when the kids are at home and there is no day care. Good luck.
Try to ask your labor force to come back to work when they know that Ms Smith is sending her kids to school (but you are not because your parents are home schooling your kids as you are too scared to send back your kid to school)
People are now asking their spouses to strip in the garage (outside clothe) after they go to the grocery store. Take a shower. Then put on their inside clothe.
Everybody is trying to outdo their neighbour in terms of paranoia.
Sweden did the right thing by not giving in. It was surely very difficult. Good for them.
