Ok so I’m a college junior runner at the d2 level who moved up to running the 800 I used to be a sprinter I have times of 11.7 in the 100m 24.0 in the 200 and 53.0 in the 400 and 1:59 in the 800. Although I’m a better 800 runner I don’t enjoy training for it anymore but I like to sprint. I feel like I could be a better sprinter if I actually tried to do it. But just looking for some advice on what should I do. Stick to 800 or try sprinting
With perfectly trained endurance, you can turn a 53.0 400m speed into ~1:56.0 800m (going 56-60 or 57-59).
You might not be able to ever improve that 100/200m times anymore, that's highly genetic and if you have done a good amount of sprint training late HS/early college it's unlikely you will suddenly find another gear and get considerably faster.
My recommendation is do whatever you enjoy more - if you like the training for sprints more (more gym work, more drills, perfecting form, super high intensity with long rests) than endurance (long runs, more mileage, threshold/tempo, longer intervals) just go for the sprints. Just don't expect to get down to like 11 flat in a FAT 100m race or something, if you had that kind of talent you would know by now (but 11.5 might be possible and would be a great result).
