Looking for advice on how to base build into summer from now.
Whats the best way to increase aerobic strength in the next 4.5-5 months. Also Planning to go to the gym once that's possible *hopefully* within a few months. I've tried "high" mileage, last summer, with a 60 mile week and some mid 50's, inconsistently, and doubling in ineffective ways (Two 8 or 9 mile runs in a day, too quickly). Having so much time until XC, what should I be doing? In track season, I kept my mileage very low, around 30mpw, and didn't do any substancial base over the winter due to injury. I don't have great top end speed (I think I could run about a 57 for a fresh, FAT 400m), and really feel like I'm lacking that aerobic strength.
Currently at about 40mpw, probably going to 45 next week, and then hanging around 50mpw for a while is the current plan.
To summarize, I want to run really strong in XC/ Track next year, and periodizing these next few months could be crucial for that. How do I train?
