We already had this thread, but didn't the President say this was a war? If we have a military war against another country do we expect each state to fight with its own military? Pay for it's own defense?
If there is major hurricane on the Gulf Coast do we expect Louisiana to set aside resources in advance so they don't have to rely on FEMA?
Aren't we one country facing a common enemy here? Which city will be hit next? I'm assuming you will expect New Orleans or Detroit to also have enough ventilators for however many patients need them?
The difference is that the hurricane doesnt decimate the entire US, only a small portion. The rest of the US is still functioning fine during the hurricane relief effort and can afford to provide resources. If you want to say the federal government should assist NY, that is fine. But not at the cost of any other state because every state in the Union is impacted right now. I live in a flyover state where my governor and local officials have taken this seriously since day 1, regardless of what Trump said, unlike NY. And sorry, but our resource need shouldn't be compromised because NY government was too afraid or naive or stupid to put proper protections in place early on for their citizens. Again help where needed but not at the cost of others which is what NY essentially feels like should be done.
