I had the grave misfortune to snap my quadriceps tendon off my patella 2.5 weeks ago. Not fun.
Getting into the hospital to see someone at all was a challenge. I was out of the country when it happened, though not anywhere that had a lot of coronavirus cases (Mexico). Still, local hospitals started banning anyone who had traveled overseas from entering, no matter where they were. Of course, they'd have let me in had I been in New York or Seattle, but whatever. I had to wait 14 days to get the surgery.
Anyway, finally had the surgery yesterday. Good docs and they all said they've had very little to do the last week or so. This is an orthopedic hospital in a large midwest city. They've closed all their satellite locations and moved all appointments to the main place. Controlled access, no one gets in without a temp check, and only one family member can come with you.
Yesterday he said they had 5 surgeries scheduled instead of their normal 45 or so. They were happy to work. So basically anything elective (like a knee replacement) is not being done. I only got in because the quad tendon surgery gets much harder after a few weeks.
They told me they'd likely be shut down and transitioning to coronavirus care within a week. Said likely my follow ups would all be video calls. Not sure how I'll get physical therapy.
Anyway, one story from someone who's been in/around hospitals the past two weeks.
