True I don’t live in NYC, but I’ve been talking with colleagues in Manhattan, Long Island, queens everyday.
Beds are available throughout the area. Hospitals are prepared which is good. And I emphasize that while there have been health care workers complaining for years about burnout and feeling overwhelmed, the situation in which a hospital is full is common and staffed appropriately.
The goal of this thread was to point out that New York did a poor job of social distancing at the right time and now have more cases. This is to be expected. Luckily there are many empty beds still all around New York. Everyone reads the same article about one queens hospital, but this hospital has significant assistance throughout New York, Healthcare, right now, even in nyc where there is an obvious increased rate of covid due to poor social distancing, is not overwhelmed. Laypeople are simply discovering how we deal with these things typically.
