The rate of car fatalities does not go up on a daily basis and is not contagious.

listen broseph: more people die annually from the flu than died in 9/11. more people die in car accidents than in 9/11 (halt all car manufacturing?). more people die of alcohol related deaths than in 9/11 (make booze illegal?).
where will this nanny state stop?
What about gun deaths?!
So depressing that people don't understand, or choose to ignore, the difference between a stable annual cycle of flu and the exponential growth of this and the increasing pressure it would put on worldwide healthcare systems if left to run riot through populations.

And they don't go away on their own either.

and they aren't a threat to kill a million people in the US this year
100 people die in car accidents in this country every day...225 people died from corona virus yesterday .....a few weeks ago that number was ~10....and in a few weeks could easily be 1,000 a.
if car deaths suddenly doubled......and was on pace to increase 10x or more....don't you think we would do something about it?
Exactly. It’s funny how people claim to be numbers people yet even with irrefutable numbers, evidence and events happening around the world, they argue against it.
Including the owner of this site.
100 die from car accidents. Ok. But how many are saved through the health system or intensive care? Hundreds more. What ever death statistic you throw in, For whatever death, they would all increase when the health system is overwhelmed due to the coronavirus. This isn’t a theory. It isn’t an opinion. It’s real life- happening now. Even though I don’t like to use this word, it’s a fact.
For all you people that feel invincible, you better prey that no unfortunate accident, illness or disease should befall on you or loved one, old or young, right now because even the most ‘successful’ ‘greatest’ and powerful country in the world may not be able to save you come a weeks time.

no, i honestly don't think we would do anything about it because of one key word: lobbyists.
guns have lobbyists and are untouchable.
car industry has lobbyists and is untouchable.
if the lawn dart industry had that kind of lobbying power it would be an olympic sport at this point.

for the record: you're "projections" about how many "might" die are not irrefutable numbers. they are guesses.

Too bad you don't get as excited about the 161,000 avoidable hospital deaths annually as you do about coronavirus. That's an average of 441 a day! ?

I hate to break it to you kiddo, but using projections is the only way to make good decisions in an outbreak growing as rapidly as this one.
We can't just sit on our hands and then when hospitals get overwhelmed go "wait, there were only 100 total deaths in this country 6 weeks ago, how did this happen?"
This would not be an accurate comparison by definition. 9/11 was a one day event whereas you are citing a one week event for comparison.
The death toll from 9/11 was right around 3,000 if I remember correctly so there would need to be approx. 21,000 deaths this week for your comparison to be accurate.
"threat to our freedom" because you are asked to stay home for a while? Hospital workers are already overwhelmed in NYC and they are already risking their lives and the health of their families. That's a sacrifice. All the government is asking you to do is stay home for a while and the're sending you a check. Don't be a wuss.
I see the deplorables jumped from the flu deaths to car accident deaths.

Don't be so obtuse. Terrorism has killed 3,781 Americans domestically TOTAL since 1970. If you want to get technical call it 1.5 deaths per week. Regardless, Covid-19 will swiftly surpass the 3,781 deaths (all-time) due to terrorism. Don't forget, we fought a war over terrorism and completely changed security measures because of it. Might as well apply any argument against Covid-19 to all the economic waste caused by our efforts to snuff out terrorism, because in terms of $/lives saved it's a much more appalling waste of resources.

Uh, hello? The OP says exactly in the title "died in 9/11" and you simply changed the subject entirely and started bringing in unrelated subject matter. You just failed basic Logic 101.
What in the world is wrong with you?

"You just failed basic Logic 101." - The guy who extrapolated 9/11 deaths over an entire week instead of using actual numbers for the week, or even using actual numbers for the last 50 years.
Ok Allen, enjoy your little enclave.

Another fail. I stated quite clearly that for the OP's comparison to hold he/she would have to use a week of 9/11 deaths to compare to a week of COVID deaths. This is about as simple as it gets.
I'm guessing you're another fine product of America's education system.

And how many people died the week of 9/11, Allen? It wasn't 21,000 was it?
Do you not understand that you don't need to extrapolate numbers from previous events to figure out what happened during those events?
Why do you want to us a week of 9/11 deaths instead of THE week of 9/11 deaths?

How many people in their 50‘s or younger wind up in ventilator or even get hospitalized due to the flu? Please compare that to the Coronavirus.
800,000 Americans are hospitalized with the flu each year (of @ 60 million who get it). 30,000 to 60,000 die annually from the flu.
1.160 Americans have been hospitalized with Covid-19 per buzzfeed news 14 hours ago

That would actually be seven back-to-back 9/11 events. That would be much worse.

The FLU killed 10 times more Americans last year than who died in 911.
That's true, so why did we make such a big deal out of it? And a lot more people died in car accidents that year.
There were only 2400 that died in the attack on Pearl Harbor, probably a lot less than died from the flu that year.
So I guess you believe that our concern as a nation about a threat should be directly proportional to the number of deaths. You can see how just comparing number of deaths from different causes or events can just get silly.
