So, similarly, my daughter's gymnastics asked me to keep paying. We are not contractually obligated to pay and unlike a gym membership it's quite expensive. $385 a month. I had just paid March's payment when this started. She got 1/4th of her classes. Not only do I not intend to continue paying but I also think they owe me a prorated refund for the time they cannot provide a service.
Fortunately for them, the government is about to write them a big fat check to assist with paying their employees and getting through the hump. Although I still don't understand why people need a check from the government AND unemployment. Actually... why a check for people who didn't lose their jobs at all is beyond me. But don't worry, your gym should be fine.
I am a small business owner and I am not holding my breath for this "big fat check".
Did you consider the loan the bank gave you when you bought your house to be a "big fat check"? Any help a small business owner will get is going to be the option to take on a mountain of debt in business loans to the government making it even harder to stay afloat.
Only large corporations get free money and bailouts. Or millions of dollars of waived property taxes waived to move into your state. Or pay no federal taxes on $11.2 billion in PROFIT like Amazon did in 2018. Which by the way it actually got a $129 million dollar rebate that year. I am glad my federal tax dollars went to help the little guy at least.
