The whole country 1.3 billion people, for 3 weeks.

India does not care about human rights. Second rate country at best. Terrible athletes per capita rating.

They have some of the worst air pollution in the world, which may be a significant risk factor for this virus considering the amount of citizens that must have respiratory issues already.

This will have a huge impact on the US. Think about all the companies that outsource work to India.

Throughout this pandemic, I've been keeping an eye on several of these countries, particularly Indonesia, which I've long considered perhaps the most overlooked major country in the world, with the fourth-highest population (behind China, India, and the U.S.) and what seems like a very fragile economic and governmental foundation. Although its geography may slow the spread of the disease -- and its reported case numbers were very low until the last few days -- I think its population is likely to be hit very hard. I really wish I could find more reason to be optimistic about all of this.

The Hubei region in China and the Po Valley are two of the worst areas in the world for PM2.5 air pollution. Look what happened there.

India, especially central and the North is off the charts compared to either region above.

On top of that asthma, TB and lung infections are more prevalent in India that anywhere else in the world...

It's going to be bad... very very bad.

I'm not sure why Indonesia would be any more vulnerable than India. I think Bangladesh and Pakistan, which also have large populations will be more vulnerable - especially Bangladesh, which is incredibly dense.

This is the right decision. A few weeks of lockdown is better than months of misery, overwhelmed hospitals, tons of preventable deaths.

I've been puzzled by the very low case numbers reported by Bangladesh and, until the last several days, India, and the reported case fatality rate has remained, to me, surprisingly low in Pakistan. But I haven't really looked into any of that.

I wish I could share the optimism -- or whatever it is -- that many people seem to have about how all of this plays out around the world. Maybe I'm just finding it hard to hear the best reasons for optimism above all of the noise.

Why has no one asked this question (perhaps because it is too obvious...)? Many, many millions of people live on the street in India. They have no homes to shelter in. They live together, in families and in groups, and there is no such thing as social distancing. There are 11 million homeless in Delhi alone (Wikipedia). Unless Indians who do have homes stay indoors 24/7, they are going to be exposed to those who are living on the street. If you have ever been to India (at least large cities), you know this is inevitable.

The case#'s may not show it by the end though, due to lack of testing.

A 3 week lockdown just means numbers will go down for 3 weeks, then back up once the lockdown is over.

How can India have a complete “stay in your house” lockdown? Some houses don’t have indoor plumbing. People have to go out to a spigot on the street, next to the open sewer, to get water. It also seemed like they have more homeless than California. Hard to believe.
