This is a commonly misstated fact.
The virus is doing quite well in tropical islands. Australia is seeing the beginning spread of the virus as well.
The fact is, this strain of coronavirus originated in bats. Flying increases body temperature quite a bat; this coronavirus can withstand body temperatures of at least 104° quite easily.
Another note to add: not all of Africa is hot. Places like Kenya and Ethiopia are ranging from 50s - 70s right now.
