That same argument could be made every day. Thousands die every day.
It is possible to give a crap about more than one thing at a time. I work in the sports realm and sports serve an important function for many people: exercise and social connection for instance. A diversion from other stressors is another.
For some people it is their livelihood. The athletes make a living (okay few Olympians actually make a living), but you have the folks who put on meets or make equipment or provide services.
Athletes training are not virologists looking for a cure or a vaccine. So if Galen is out running 20 he is not reducing the pace at which either will be found.
