Nope. Accept reality. It’s liberating.

To everyone dismissing Emma’s concerns: they are legitimate and we should all be very worried about COVID-19. Please read what epidemiologists and other health care professionals are warning.
Most of us will get it over the course of the next 18 months. It will be lethal for the elderly, but it also has serious implications for younger people too. Worldwide, ICUs are filled with young, healthy people who have been intubated. Our healthcare system is not equipped to handle the stress that will be placed on it in the upcoming months. Doctors in the US will have to triage patients, essentially choosing to treat the young and allow the elderly to die. This is serious.
Best wishes to the Ulmer/ Bateses
Doesn't seem to be unique to his boss:

I think the tweets are out of concern that her husband is a UPS driver delivering packages to people everyday. If he has contracted the virus he can spread it to vulnerable populations. She wants to get tested along with her husband to protect the people he would spread it to. I think it would be logical for UPS to test drivers that had exposure in countries like Spain and their spouses.

I agree that she had reason to be concerned. I agree that there is a possibility they have it and that it would be safest for her husband to not go into work and to self quarantine. However, it was 100% wrong to tweet about it as the end result is not a good look and mostly kind of appears like a rant against her husbands employer rather than legitimate health concerns. What was gained and what was the purpose of these tweets? It was a mistake, although I think likely fueled by fatigue and sickness and then once she started digging the hole she just kept going trying to make it better, which never works.
She has an update. Still hasn't been able to get tested. This is the kind of backtracking that countries like South Korea do, so the general public can get tested if they were in close proximity to someone tested positive.
She's been in Spain, NY and Seattle. Her husband has a heart condition.

I can guarantee you corona virus doesn't leave you with permanently reduced lung capacity. Ya, it might take months to return to normal, but you will, use common sense! This isn't some apocalyptic disease.
I pray for Emma and hope she makes a speedy recovery.
A guarantee is a pretty big claim buckeroo ... why don't you stick to your username and stop pretending you are an expert at something you aren't.
Right now we don't know if it will leave lasting lung damage because we don't have anyone who has survived after recovery for longer than 4 months. Lets just wait and see on this before making absolute claims.
i appreciate Emma's posts and updates. I think it's important to remember that COVID-19 is a serious illness whether or not you are hospitalized because of it. Emma has been sick for nearly a week, and she is a healthy very active twenty-something.
I am getting tired of young people desperately clinging to the narrative that it doesn't affect young people. It DOES. I see people doing it all the time, "oh yeah he was young but he had a CONDITION" or he is "overweight" or this or that. Actually most people DO have some condition or another. You never actually know how a virus like this will impact you. Sometimes you have a condition and aren't aware you have it.
Please lets all take this seriously. Getting sick with a virus for which there is no treatment is a major risk no matter what age you are.
There is no cure, so testing random people is pointless. She should assume she has it and act accordingly.
If she were a health care worker I would feel differently. They are needed now, runners are not. She can sit at home for 2 weeks and it won't make a whit of difference.

Her narrative sounds like a really bad case of e. coli poisoning I had once in Guatemala. Bad food poisoning can give you aches, chills, fever, nausea, and a serious case of the craps.
probably just overtraining or something

I am praying for Emma Bates . Please Lord spare this beautiful and talented young woman.
+1
The behavior of UPS management is typical.
I read yesterday that quite a few cases of COVID-19 are starting with GI symptoms that can be intense, after which the coughing and pulmonary issues come.
The lack of very widespread testing in the US as this broke out will be condemned for 100 years.
Emma is a tough lady... he needs to dig deeper and realize she is ok. Be a role model. I’ve seen her run a few great marathons and she is scared of the flu?

More asinine advice on Letsrun.
Test everyone! And often. Quarantine anyone who tests positive. Then the rest can go on with their lives.
See how easy that is?

Just a bit of background: I am an American living in Spain and have been here for almost eight years. Yes, I ran in college and yes, I was an NCAA outdoors finalist.
She should have read the news before she came. It was widely apparent that the coronavirus was everywhere. I follow them on instagram and it seemed as if they were invincible to getting it. My brother was supposed to go to Italy last moth and I told him that he needed to cancel his trip. Unfortunately, the media didn’t communicate beforehand how bad the situation was in southern Europe.
As of today we have nearly 22,000 cases and almost 2000 that have been released from the hospital. The death toll keeps rising, but we are going to get over this.
Everyone please take precautions seriously! All the best!
