Smaller trail and ultra events are the only sport still going on. Jim is on track to become the dominant athlete of the season.

Um, how does he erase already being embarrassed at the US trials? He ran and looked like shlt and now has no opportunity to try and prove it was just a bad race. The “top” ultra runner can’t beat a whole bunch of dudes nobody has ever even heard of. Embarrassing look at the true talent of ultra runners. An other “too” ultra runner (Sage) couldn’t even qualify. The top of ultra running is low talent, I a nf even imagine how crap a “sub-elite” ultra guy is. Probably a 50 minute 10k caliber.

Yeah, he looks like a guy that finished in 22nd place at the marathon trials.

Yeah, he looks like a guy that finished in 22nd place at the marathon trials.
That means he beat 90% of elite marathoners at their own sport.
How many of those elite marathoners could drop down to the 1500 trials and beat 90% of those athletes?

He still competes in distances that about 99% of good runners have no interest in.

No, he did not beat 90% of elite marathoners. Very few US runners are top elite marathoners.
With a 2:15, I am not even sure he is in the top 1 000 marathoner in the world by time since 2019. That's how irrelevant he is in the marathon scene.

How many top marathoners have a top 1,000 global time in the 1500m?

They don't run the 1500m for most of them but Bekele and Kipchoge who were track runners have PBs at 1500 that would rank in the top 20-25 of best 1500m performances since 2019.

This viewpoint is outdated.

In other words, only the GOATs have this level of range.

The marathon is 28 times farther than the 1500, while a 100-miler is less than 4 times a marathon.

You were saying that Walmsey had beaten a lot of elite marathoners, which is not true. Walmsley would be considerer a very average elite marathoner and would not contend for any big prize.
The real question is will some pro marathoners start to vulture ultra events if these are not cancelled while the olympics and the marathons are?
So everyone that finished behind him at the trials should retire from running and take up pickleball?

Indeed that's the question.
And I think they're ready for a wake-up call when they go up against the Walms.

of the few who finished behind him, there a couple who just had very bad days. But the majority are basically hobby joggers who would hardly be considered professional runners.
So about 15 sub-elite US marathoners and about a thousand sub-elite world wide marathoners should be able to beat Walmsey at his distances.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
With all the road races and track meets cancelled, and trail ultras continuing on, now is the PERFECT chance to show how good they are.
If ultra competition is "weak," then surely winning a "weak" event is better for these marathon hotshots than not competing in any events because they're cancelled.

Is it true that the only thing the winner of the WS 100 receives is a trophy and a belt buckle?
