Well that's quite reassuring.

As I said I live in one of the safest and richest countries in the world and we took Corona seriously long before you did. You will struggle. I am a nurse working with it now.
Congratulations on your safety and wealth. The US will now get out of NATO.
They have lost their ever-loving minds.

Actually it happens to be a particularly dangerous time to be AROUND morons. Like Facts Matter and Allen. How about you guys venture to Italy? Think they are going thru all that just for giggles?
I’d peg the death rate at 1%. That’s significant but not Spanish flu territory. However we know approx. 15% of people will need hospitalization and a portion of that will need ventilators. That is a fact and facts matter. We do not have capacity if suddenly thousands of people flood the hospitals needing ventilators. Then the death rate shoots up.

I’m confused. The basis of your argument is that my wife’s advanced degrees that are highly pertinent to this subject are not meaningful because the US healthcare system is private and payers and health systems exercise broad control over its economics. What do these two things have to do with one another?
I get it, you and facts matter have an uneducated contrarian view of the world that probably manifests in many different subjects. You also probably question global warming and other conventional evidence based science. This just happens to be a particularly dangerous time to be a moron.
You are definitely confused- please spare me the advanced degree crap- I could walk out my door and go speak to numerous imbeciles that have PhD's coming out of their A$$e$ and these are truly some of the least informed people I've ever come across in my life.
You don't get it and never will as you swallow corporate media slop like an everyday meal. You are just as ignorant as those global warming deniers as seen in your knee-jerk reactionary positions which have been spoon fed to you.
The organizations that represent the medical industry are thoroughly bought off like the rest of the institutions that make up the US corporate establishment- if this is news to you then please don't make the claim that you are educated in any sense of the word.
As for your wife and all her "expertise" it comes with a heavy dose of ideological baggage. The pre-professional training programs in the US Medical Establishment (an integral part of) are also thoroughly bought off. Is this also news to you? Shall we go over each and every US medical school (let's start with the best) and review their funding sources? Of course "following the money" might be too "conspiratorial" for your indoctrinated and obedient mind.
Simply put most physicians in the US are medical quacks who have very rigid (and wrong headed) ideas on health and well-being. We don't have to review how many doctors get all sorts of financial kickbacks and benefits from pharmaceuticals do we? And that's only the tip of the iceberg- the reality is the US medical profession is defined by financial ties and their way of doing business better be a certain way as defined by big business or they won't be practicing very long.
That said there are some very fine ones out there but you have to reach far and wide to locate them.
Oh and keep telling us about your wife's "advanced degrees" it makes you look important.
And the funny thing is...if we are successful with mitigation measures and slow the spread, these mouth breathers will ignore that and just say “told ya it wouldn’t be as big a deal as you said.”
Right on! All these doctors decided to invent corona conspiracy so they could afford THREE country club memberships instead of TWO!! And they coordinated it perfectly! Not one single doctor in a country of 300 million people has yet to spill the beans!!

That is exactly how it is. Thank you.
Anyone who thinks otherwise simply hasn't been paying attention

Bob you just used a logical fallacy- it's called a non-sequitur. Remember I'm supposed to be the dumb one here Bob.
Obviously I wasn't making the case you concocted (well not obviously to you) but it does show another clear example of a reactionary individual.
Most doctors are bought off by the very system their salaries are tied to. That's probably too "far out there" for you Bob. Head back to your television.
Some people have abandoned their critical thinking skills here and as always the media machine is pimping fear 24/7.
So it was the media machine in China that was pimping fear? It's the media machine in Iran that is exaggerating the impact of the virus? I think everyone knows that the actual number of cases and deaths in those countries is vastly under-reported. What incentive would the state-run governments of those countries have to build up the risk?

STFU
In June 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the new strain of swine-origin H1N1 as a pandemic. This novel virus spread worldwide and had caused 18,500 laboratory-confirmed deaths with an estimated 151,700 to 575,400 deaths total[3][4] by August of 2010. On 10 August 2010, the World Health Organization declared the H1N1 influenza pandemic over, saying worldwide flu activity had returned to typical seasonal patterns
Allen—your head is so far up your ass it’s unbelievable. I like how you try lecturing on logical fallacies like you’re some great sage and then drop the biggest logical fallacy on this entire board:”everyone knows the healthcare system and all doctors are paid off and corrupt”. That’s it? That’s your whole argument? Cite me some facts, cutie.
And then comment on this and tell me how the US will be different? Now get making your tin foil hats.
Including "the F**K" in your command is likely to have an effect that escalates panic rather than calms or quells it.

You are comparing something that has scaled (the flu) to something that hasn't yet scaled (the coronavirus). In short, you are an idiot.
Probably the stupidest response ever.
So, the fact that the flu has already killed 20,000 and sickened 34 million Americans in 5 months doesn't bother you, however, the possibility that the coronavirus might do the same thing terrifies you.
Ummm, yeah, that makes sense.

STOP CHERRY-PICKING DATA.
It has much longer generation time. Don't know what that is? LOOK IT UP. Why haven't you already?
I'll tell you why: you wanted to find a reason to believe it spreads faster than flu, but you didn't want to find reasons why it doesn't.

WOW, nice fact based retort.
This type of moronic analogy that feeds the tiny brain's fears. So, you compare something big to something little, ignore all factual data and feel proud of yourself as if you actually said something relevant? You're comment might just win the stupidest post award! ?
What exactly is the evidence of panic? There hasn't been any looting, riots, arson, or coup attempts. All that has happened so far is a bunch stuff gets cancelled that we can live without, like college basketball and scientific conferences, which seem like reasonable precautions in the event of a likely pandemic.
No, I don't like the president or think he has the basic competence to quarterback this situation, but it seems like most people are fairly taking this in stride.
