I agree with winter as much as it sucks, but spring? That seems like jumping the gun. How about wait and see how this thing goes first.

The virus is already loose in your country. How can you deal with it, when you haven't done protective measures already? Look to other countries. We have tested way more people in smaller countries and have already put strict rules in action. Meanwhile the US doesn't know anything about how many people has it and cant make an estimation because you have no data!

You have it backwards. Cancelling sports is part of making sure this outbreak does not go fully worst case scenario. Going full steam ahead and then "seeing how this thing plays out" is completely dumb.
The idea would be to cancel indoor, along with March and April of the outdoor season. No team practices, no track meets. Everyone may or not be in good shape, but if the health of the country is at a better place and warmer weather is helping the cause, then why not allow the track season to last for 2 months, May and June?

Theoretically they could reinstate everything with the snap of a finger. But with how big the country is and how viruses generally work, it's unlikely that it'll be prudent to have large gatherings even in 3 months. Best not to give people false hope.
Sounds like this Covid-19 thing might be a bit worse than the common cold that Dear Leader keeps prattling on about?
Or, the Deep State is willing to lose trillions of dollars and many lives on this worldwide "hoax" to do some stigginit to the most poorly treated world leader ever?
Hmmm...which scenario is more plausible?
So are we just going to cancel everything forever? Are people supposed to not work or grocery shop too?

The whole point of doing all this now is so it doesn't have to come to that. Because in Italy, it has come to that.
Perhaps we wouldn't be here if the administration took some serious and sober steps two months ago? But, no. President "I Hate Science Nerds" saw this as a point of leverage against China and his band of morons decided to fly a bunch of infected 'Muricans from a cruise ship home because one of them was a GOP donor. Of course, they were greeted at landing by a bunch of political flacks without proper training and protective gear...on and on and on...

Also a lot of schools are not having students on campus for the spring break.... Students will be taking classes online and be spread out around the country
That flotrack link says they are cancelling all championships, not all sports.

Hmm. I would rather have hope and a possibility of outdoor champs not happening versus calling it a season 3 months early.
The PAC12 & ACC has canceled all sports.
yikes. i didn't realize it was spring too!
Idk man. Everyone is just out here doing the best that they can. We have a deadly virus spreading and a President who is incapable of doing even the simplest things needed to contain it. In 2018 he fired the entire pandemic response team. There are also not enough tests, and he keeps giving mis information.
That leaves the people and the organizations to govern. So the NCAA is canceling everything. The NBA, the MLB, The NHL--they are canceling and postponing everything. Broadway is shut down. Hand sanitizer can't be found anywhere. toilet paper is off the shelves. I don't blame anyone or any organization for just trying their best.
NCAA governs the championships while individual conferences govern the regular season competitions. So theoretically we could still have regular spring sports seasons if they were to allow them, with all the talk going on I’d assume it’s highly unlikely.
My son raced in the Nordic ski championships this week and they cancelled the 2nd race, which was to be on Saturday.
