Look, if they can't operate a smartphone then they shouldn't operate a 3,000 pound vehicle. Nothing about this situation is okay. If you can put everyone else's life in danger driving your car around, you can use a smartphone.
What a ridiculous analogy. At 80 years old they likely have 60+ years experience driving a car. They probably don’t own a Smartphone, or if they do don’t use it for ordering food.
smartphone operation and use should be required for a driver's license. Keep morons off the road.[/quote]
According to this study less than 20% of people over 80 use smartphones:

The parts of her story that are unbelievable are:
The elderly couple were so isolated. If they had children or grandchildren, they could call them and explain their predicament and one would have placed an order for them. Any decent neighbor would have helped them out. A cleaning person or a caregiver would have helped. They also could have called Safeway.
Bend, Oregon is probably full of decent, God fearing, Trump voting people, so the 45-minute wait for the "right" person is ridiculous. At a typical Safeway, about a hundred people would have walked by their car during that time.
The talking through a crack in the window is over the top paranoia. It is also poor etiquette to do so with someone you want a somewhat significant favor from and she was going to be touching the groceries, anyway.
Maybe things have changed with social media, but most people don't toot their horn over doing doing something that most other people would do.
