The Coronavirus panic is sick. The way the US and international community is handling this outbreak by cancelling events, schools, and entire sports seasons is incredibly stupid, selfish, and thoughtless. If we continue to overreact like we are doing, we are setting a dangerous precedent for future generations to come.
Imagine living in a world where seasons of sports begin to get cancelled because of a bad flu season or a bad case of strep throat going around. Those two diseases also dangerous to people over 60 and those with underlying health issues. The selfish nature of taking away things from people that worked incredibly hard for is a tragedy itself.
For some the Ivy league basketball tournament might not have been a big deal. But imagine how it feels for those seniors that will never have a shot playing in an NCAA game again. The NYC half marathon was cancelled and I am sure there were thousands of people that put in their blood sweat and tears only to have their big day be canned.
Cancelling all of these concerts, sports, and movie premiers are causing a recession. People are going to lose their jobs, restaurants are going out of business. People are becoming terrified for no good reason.
Shame on you, the person that posts how these events need to be cancelled, shame on the person that constantly retweets every source of news they find without fact checking. Shame on all the people who keep saying rather be safe then sorry.
I don't want to live in a world where people are afraid to go out, afraid to go to races, concerts, movies, basically just live. So to all the Letsrun users constantly posting about how dangerous they think this virus is and how they should cancel every event under the sun, Shame on you!
Cancelling all of these events sets an incredibly dangerous precedent for future outbreaks

There are vaccines for the flu and treatments for strep. Do you have either for coronavirus?
-
I totally agree.
When this blows over, there will be bunch of news of people having herd mentality and wanting chaos for the sake of wanting chaos. Everyone just wants excuse to stay home and take a little break. Maybe this will be good in the long run where Americans finally get to take a little break from everyday work unlike the Europeans where they take month long vacation with no issues.
However, in the short term, we'll be dealing with massive layoffs and dealing with consequences from this overreaction. -
Since everyone that gets a flu shot never gets the flu..ok boomer

I hope more people will start to act like OP and I so we can get the world back to normal.

I look forward to a future of solo sports endeavours, leisurely contemplation, and reading books indoors. Actually, social distancing sounds like how I intentionally have spent most of my life. Bring it on!

I think its great everyone is in panic. Flights and holidays are so cheap right now. just came back from skiing and it was much emptier than last year. Thinking about another holiday at the end of the month. the prices are delicious.

The problem is that without customers that ski area cannot afford to keep operating and airlines won't continue to fly planes that are empty. This situation is not sustainable. -

Of course not. But opportunity is always were some unbalance has been created. Here its oversupply of some services. -
It's you that is being selfish. 60+ year olds lives don't matter to you just so you can watch so overpaid pro athlete play basketball. People are literally dying by the thousands and you're complaining of sports season.
This type of thinking is why the pandemic in the US will be catastrophic.

Then, what about all of the MILLIONS of workers who are going to be laid off from this? What about their lives?
The poorest are going to suffer the most as hourly wage workers will be the first ones to go.
Restaurants and food trucks near my work have been suffering big time as of this and will continue.
When companies start to see their profits gone, they're going to cut the lowest wage workers first as they'll be the most replaceable and require the least amount of training to rehire. -
They'll be alive.
Overreact anyone? wrote:

The end result will be that most people will still contract Covid-19. That is unless it goes away in the spring, which is a real possibility. In that case it might be best to have the social distancing now. It's a tough call. I can't believe this is actually happening.

Bro! I was going to accuse the OP of being the “Pathetic” poster I called an idiot in another caronavirus thread, but he practically outed himself.
You are the selfish fool, I assure you.
Also you said you’re 23 in the other thread, so happy birthday!
