I wouldn't necessarily read too much into this, I'm surprised they didn't cancel the parade earlier. If you've ever ridden the T there the trains are absolutely jam packed, and the stations near the parade are even worse. It probably took me 15-20 minutes just to get out of Broadway station last time I went, the platforms were packed to the point where you felt suffocated and some people were panicking, and more trains just kept coming in and offloading. Add in the fact that everyone's drunk and not practicing the best hygiene, and it would have been a disaster waiting to happen.
I do agree that it's not looking good for the marathon, but I'm hopeful that they can pull it off in some limited form besides just the elite race.
