So GB athlete Chris Thompson ran a 61:03 on Sunday in the Big Half in London. Photos emerge of him wearing blacked out next% despite the fact he is sponsored by On.
As the photos started to circulate on social media it became apparent that On are allowing their athletes to run in Nike shoes and keep their sponsorship.
‘[on]want the best for their athletes, so much so they went above and beyond for me today. In a tough climate of change in the road running scene and companies having to react with little to no help. I’m proud to work with a company who care about the athletes they work with’
Is this move by On a forward-thinking one or is it a brand-image disaster scenario?
I would probably never wear On shoes myself but this publicity kind of makes me respect them more than if they just fast tracked an inferior shoe to market and tried to convince us it’s a Nike-beater.
