Course record!
Can't believe nobody is talking about this. Got the W and set new course record. Seems to be in pretty good weight this far out from London. 8 weeks before London, it's a really good sign.

Is this a slow course?
guy runs just under goal marathon pace and we're supposed to get excited?
Apparently it was very windy with headwind according to someone who ran it.
Previous course record of Farah was beaten by one minute. But some other british named Thompson did a near PR and was also slightly under the old record. He started strong in 28:35 at 10k.

Yes
It's great to see , i want him to win London and take the wr
I have my doubts though about how he's making this comeback to the very top level

Do you really think this was an all-out effort 8 weeks before London? He left something in the tank and probably doesn't want Kipchoge to know his true fitness level.
Chris Thompson is hella fast.

You should watch the race and see how hard Bekele was breathing, you can hear it on the video. This was a very hard effort for him.
great sign, hyyyyypee london marathon

I ran yesterday and whilst it's not the fastest course, it's not a very slow or tough course. There is one section where you have about 600m of cobbles which is annoying and there are a few inclines.
It was pretty windy yesterday though and it was a bit of a headwind in the later miles.
I thought he looked pretty tired for only 60:22. He is 8 weeks out though, had to surge a few times during the race, and probably didn't give 100%, so he gets a semi-pass, but if I were kipchoge i would be pretty happy seeing bekele this tired at what he (kipchoge) considers slower than marathon pace.

No pacers. so Bekele couldn't run behind any others like runners further back in the pack could do.
He had no competition, why work so hard? Did he get any bonus for breaking course record?

His team probably had analyzed the course and had expectations of the time he should achieve and they will make training adjustments accordingly.
Come on guys his goal race is late April. He still is in heavy training. What u thought he would run 58:00? Why. Probably trying to race at marathon pace

8 weeks, that's a long time. bekele is famous for getting in shape within a short time. there are some runners who need to build up over a few months slowly and there are runners like bekele who are far better off hammering just for 6-8 weeks, no more.
i know a marathoner who was a specialist for mountain marathons who ran some course records. two peak form races per year (spring, autumn). 8 weeks prior race day nobody would expect him to play a role. then he started to run 120-130 miles per week with hilly long runs at a brisk pace for 22-25 miles, lots of fartleks. after 6-8 weeks he was always ready to rock.
