Not to knock the recently established US Olympic marathon team but I don’t think the trials is the best way to chose who runs at the Olympics. I think they (whoever they is) need to consider maybe what the FIS does in skiing for example and base things off a point system. Have placing top 3 in a major marathon during the 3-4 years prior to the Olympics be a certain number of points, have the first two Americans at a major be points, have the runners holding the fastest marathon time at the end of each year be a certain amt of pts. Still have the trials it can be weighted a bit more but don’t have the trials be the ONLY deciding factor. I think consistency should matter in a runners performance and determining the best 3 US marathoners...the trials takes consistency away a bit. Thoughts?
