Just wondering if our next Olympic trials shouldn't be held on a flatter course (unlike Atlanta) and in the cool of the day (unlike L.A.). Not to take anything away from the winners, but why have, by all accounts, a nasty course that takes out so many of our best runners. Would a fast, flat and cool course be such a horrible choice?
Is the Olympic Marathon usually a cool flat race?
Everyone ran the same course under the same conditions and the cream rose to the top. The best won the race. If someone is being labeled as one of our "best runners" then they should have performed better on race day. That's why we have races not time trials. 'Erbody goes to CIM or Chicago and runs some blazing time then come race day on a real course people like us go "what happened?" when they "underperform".
