Comedy race. Abdi, Rupp, two African women.
Nothing can go wrong there then.

Alphafly bouncers dominating as predicted.
Abdi getting a spot just shows how pathetic a trials these are. 43 give me a break.
As least the womans wasn't dominated by shoes, instead Kenyan's dominated.
Alphafly's took 4 of the spots on team.
Not the ideal outcome.
You seem to be having a spot of bother with plurals.
Please tell me, what are the values and norms that people born in Kenya could not represent? I seriously want to know that. Some special unique American values?
Stop feeding the troll, or he’ll never go away.
Forget about that. Focus on the Nike shoes. Forget being of East African origins gives you a few % advantage no shoe can compensate for.
Didn’t everyone have access to these shoes? If they chose not to run in them that is on them. There were quite a few Nike athletes that also chose to run in the next
The new shoe type has been out for over 3 years , no sympathy for shoe companies not catching up sooner
I think Riley getting 2nd here is even more astounding than Sellers Boston result.
My favorite picture:
You assume so much - stuff that’s in your head that you think is the total truth. You’re Wong about my wealth, about my travels, and you don’t know beans about these women on America’s team. You need to open your brain, guy. I appreciate people from different cultures. It makes America interesting.

So happy that only one cheating doper from NOP made it.
when you say "cheating doper from NOP", don't you mean "true baller from Portland, Oregon"?
All 3 members of the men’s team competed for Pac-12 universities! A sweep!

Walmsley proved why he's an ultra guy.
Walmsley didn't go to ultras because he wasn't good enough at the marathon. That was his FIRST marathon he has run and only 21 of the best marathoners in the country beat him. Maybe all those guys that beat him should jump in comrades and see how they do. The winnner gets over 36k.
What an ignorant argument. A tough course with wind and hills should have shown his strength and endurance. He is just sub elite at shorter distances. His mythic stature and fandom needs to die after this showing. Those who aren't fast enough just run farther.

Nothing has changed wrt him being the best US ultrarunner.

So it's your contention that we wouldn't be sending Rupp, Riley and Abdi to the olympics if they weren't wearing Alphaflys? They still wouldn't have been the best on the day? Please.....

Can't wait for the Rupp haters to come out in force when he jogs in for the win.
In case anyone's interested, comedy runners Nestor and Shrader DNFd as expected.

Rupp just ran the easiest looking 2:09 I've ever seen. He was toying with everyone. It looked like a training run for him not a race. Even if he's off the special sauce he still has a decent chance when he actually races for real. The rest of the field looked terrible and Walmsley proved why he's an ultra guy.
I concur. His race kind of reminds me of Ryan Hall winning the trials in Central Park. Completely under control and never in doubt from 18 miles on.
Similar performances. Rupp closed in 63:30 or so. Hall 62:xx.
The NY course was a little faster.

But, I just gave you one.
Well, you certainly prove there are a lot of morons here. :)
A brief history of America:
1. Americans lived here for thousands of years
2. Europeans invaded, killed the Americans, and started a few colonies - New England, New France, New Spain - New York / New Amsterdam etc
3. The Brits were the strongest of the European invaders so ended up taking over most of the land. They had a civil war amongst themselves in 1776 over the right to call themselves the real "Americans".
4. These Europeans who called themselves Americans then brought over millions of black slaves to build the nation
5. Eventually they bow to international pressure and stopped slavery and begrudgingly allowed blacks to be Americans too - albeit with an "African American" label, which the European Americans do not have.
6. Oh, and the real Americans were called "Indians" for centuries before being given some sort of rights and now have the prefix "Native" before the word American.
So - when people say "American values" and "American culture" - what exactly are they?
From LRC's recap of the women's race:
“I told Molly, ‘let’s do this,” Tuliamuk said. Seidel said, “Aliphine needs to take a lot of credit for this…I feel like I wouldn’t have been as calm in that breakaway with anyone else. Aliphine is someone I look up to so much…To feel like this is a friend of mine who I know and I trust right now [was great].”
Tuliamuk and Seidel were all alone up front as they continued to push and pull away from everyone else. “If we were going down we were going down together. There is no one I would rather get to share those miserable last 5 miles with,” Seidel said.
Clearly, the runner up is full of admiration for the winner, whom she also trains with. I suggest those who never come anywhere close to even qualifying for the trials don't get to say who is deserving to be on the US team.
