Since there is a lot of talking on these forums about Tinman Elite (due to their massive social media presence) and Tinman training (due to the fame of coach Tom Schwartz/Tinman), I decided to make a thread about their runners who are competing in the 5k in Boston today.
First I want to make clear, no one expects them to suddenly become champions or beat the Kenyan imports like Chelimo, Bor or Cheserek. Tinman is not a sorcerer, and there is no magic in increasing running performance naturally with good training and hard work on that elite level. But we should expect them to compete well against other American (yes, I know Gusman is Australian) runners and maybe even set some nice PRs.
Here are the participants and their PR:
Jordan Gusman - 13:21
Sydney Gidabuday - 13:29
Connor Winter - 13:35
Brian Barraza - 13:38
Aaron Templeton - 13:39
Why is this interesting? Unlike most other pros, the TME are very transparent about their training and "pro running lifestyle", sharing full training logs on Strava and making videos about their life in Boulder. Tinman's training is considered to be revolutionary by being considerably softer than most other training programs, and only sparingly using hard intervals on the track. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Olympic standard is 13:13.50, and is in reach for the Australian Gusman.
