BU is the fastest track in the world. The Nike athletes and pacers were perfect. They're in peak shape. All things considered, these were PR conditions. American Record conditions were made possible due to 1 simple fact most of you are forgetting - the new Nike carbon fiber plate spikes. They're all wearing them. Purrier was wearing the NB version at Millrose. Records are dropping everywhere and will continue.
I don't know what the performance gains are in the new spikes but let's call it 2%. That's 1.2 seconds/min. In an 8 min long race, that's 9.6 seconds. For an 8:25 second race the 3K performances are 10 seconds faster. Are they in 8:35 shape? Probably. Did they run 8:25? Yep.
Yes - the shoes are real and the times will be faster. When the Olympic finals are run, all of the world class runners will be faster.
One other comment. The reason Houlihan lost is the same reason she loses every time the pace is fast, she can't throw down a 27 or 28 second last 200 off a fast pace. She can still set records but you can't just hand her the win.
