What do you think the odds are that the BAA cancels Boston this year due to concerns about the Coronavirus?
If you are planning to run, are you hedging your bets any way by buying travelers insurance or anything else?

Pray that you are alive, and that Boston even still exists by then. Hedge your bets with Pascal's Wager and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
28.733% chance
After reading 6 other threads posted this week with the same title, I’ve calculated a 42,5% chance on cancellation.
Very good chance. I’m going to try to buy trip cancellation insurance.
I was thinking the same thing. If they don’t cancel, should I still go even though I don’t have health insurance. I am also flying from San Francisco to Boston and back and I am kinda worried that I might catch the virus at the airport or from a passenger. Should I be worried??
Sounds like it would be about 20% today
But the next two weeks should really show the next phase of growth. By that time, I imagine we will have a greater sense if Boston and other large gatherings will be cancelled.
The officials in Japan said they feel they have until late May to decide on the olympics.
Came across this story just now.
Boston Marathon ‘proceeding as planned’ as spread of coronavirus is monitored, BAA says
Other races, including the Tokyo Marathon, have altered events due to the outbreak of the new virus.
The Boston Athletic Association says it is “carefully monitoring” updates on the spread of the novel coronavirus, but the 2020 Boston Marathon is “proceeding as planned” for April 20.
Organizers of the Tokyo Marathon have restricted the March 1 race to elite athletes over concerns about the coronavirus, and, earlier this month, the entire Hong Kong marathon was canceled due to the outbreak.

The BAA made that statement a week ago. They said no further statements at this time. The BAA is not an expert on exponential growth.
And politicians can't cover up cases with gag orders. If hospitals are overflowing, someone will whistleblow and be protected. This person would be a hero.
I think the odds are 99% it will be cancelled in some form. Elites only?
Smart move to buy trip insurance.
There are no plans, as if now to cancel. It will be a race day decision based upon the winds. If the winds are from the SE at 5mph or greater, the race will be cancelled, because anyone coughing will potentially spread the virus to those behind them.
Yikes.
The potential it may be cancelled more than I thought when I woke up this morning.
I suppose the next two or three weeks we will have to wait and see how this thing spreads.
I would give 100/1 odds minimum bet- $5,000
Well the Geneva auto show was just cancelled this morning and that starts on Monday. That’s a loss of $10s of millions just for the manufacturers attended not to say anything about the attendees that come from all over the world not the organizers.
I am flying out of the country to a non affected part of the world but still going to be careful. Not that it will probably matter since I’m on NYC trains everyday. I think there a significant chance it is cancelled or postponed. Always buy travel insurance.
In the last 24 hours I am raising my odds of boston begin cancelled from 20% to 40%...
If BAA holds the marathon... run the course. If BAA cancels the marathon...run the course.
What exactly kinds of things are you all booking that need trip insurance? My hotel can be cancelled all the way up to 3 days ahead of trip, my plane tickets can be moved to a later date. What the heck does trip insurance cover?
Also, everyone throwing out "odds", you all are hilarious. But since we're all doing it, I'm putting odds on 99% they hold the event.
My first Boston was 2003 when SARS worry was near peak. Other than everyone from Asia wearing a mask around town, and everyone giving them a very wide berth, it went without a hitch.
Going no matter what. But I'll be pissed $$$
I can wake up at 4am, run the same course. I'll stash bottles the night before.
100% it will be canceled. It took China about 2-3 months to start getting new case #'s on the decline. I don't see why it would be any different for the USA. Until that point it's going to look like the sky is falling.
