Old trend - train in cushioned shoes and race in firmer shoes
New trend - train in firm shoes and race in cushioned shoes
Technology has allowed for this since cushioned and responsive shoes can now weigh 6oz. I believe that training and racing in cushioned shoes will lead to bio-mechanical and micro muscle atrophy leading to injuries. I believe runners will start opting to train/spend time in firm shoes to avoid these issues. And of coarse runners will continue to race in cushioned shoes that save your big muscles from getting beat up. This is especially true for 13.1+. I have noticed myself doing this already but i like to run in 6 different models of shoes anyways.
