I will bet that one of the big stars does not finish her education at NC State and will transfer
I think the "big stars" will stay. If my kid was a potential 6 to 12 xc runner on their team, I would tell her to transfer. Why sit the bench for Regionals and Nationals.
They all seemed to sense something at NC State they did not sense elsewhere. Both Starliper and Tuohy have admitted to feeling a lot of pressure in some races and having it affect their performance. It seems some of the support available here might be good.
The question I have is do no other schools have this, and have a more pressured approach to recruiting?
Every returning girl on that team outside the top 3 should be entering the transfer portal.
Those who can’t transfer out and will end up not making their top 7 next year at NC state won’t be useless at all. They will be pushing their 6th/7th runner, which will motivate their 6th/7th runner to never be complacent or take any race lightly, work as hard as they can, and do the little things (such as sleep and nutrition) as right as they can. If they fail at any of these, their 6th/7th spot will more likely be gone. It will also make their lineup deeper and add insurance for someone that has an off day.
There’s also been experiences when someone makes the top 7 but does not make it the year after, even with hardly any recruits.
Not making the top 7, whether they made it the year before or not, is part of sports.
The point is that there are way too many quality runners there. A handful of fast runners will be upset. So if you think you are one of them, look to transfer.
Anyone know of the reason why Steelman’s transferring?
Steelman was a mediocre high school athlete with a 5:02 1600 and 11:09 3200. Wofford turned her into a numerous time All-American. She returns the favor by jumping ship and joining the super team.
I lost a lot of respect for her. She thinks she's too good for the team that made her competitive at the national and world level.

5:02 is not mediocre for a high school girl. You have a lot of hatred in you. Get some therapy.

How many 5:02 high school runners go on to average 4:52 pace for a 3k by their sophomore year? And average 5:04 pace for a 5k their sophomore year? And place 3rd in the NCAA in the steeplechase by their sophomore year, hitting the Olympic Trials standard in the process? She was less than 7 seconds off the World Championship standard.
Her 5:02.76 was #439 in the nation as a senior in high school.
Wow. And she would have been even worse than that in high school because a few states run the 1500 for girls. So she was probably more like 500th.
