Anywhere from 1500m to Marathon running.
If I run a 6 minute mile, and improve to 5:30 by the end of the year, can I expect to improve my pick up rate by a factor of 2 ?

No, because being skinny is not that attractive for women.
Look at Galen Rupp. Do you want to look like Galen Rupp?
I've got some Division 1 All-American hardware, it doesn't give you a boost unless the girl also runs, then it actually does help a bit.
Some random that doesn't know anything about running won't be impressed at all, there's no sense even bringing it up.
ask jamin and see what he says
I don't think so in most cases. The majority of women I've met at races just do it to lose weight and post 3hr half marathon times to instagram

It all depends on your age, bro.
If you are under 25 then no: "distance" running will not impress the women of your age. I put distance in speech marks because I don't really consider anything under a 5k to be "distance" running, but that's just my personal take.
If you are 25 to 35 then possibly: if the women are also runners then it can create a common bond and something to talk about.
If you are 35+ then probably: a majority of the male population starts to get out of shape, so if you are constantly training for half marathons or marathons, then you're definitely going to be in way better shape than a lot of other dudes your age. It also shows that you are dedicated, which a lot of women your age will also find attractive.
To summarize: the best of all possibilities is that distance running can "probably" be impressive to women.
i can't speak for anyone else, but for me the answer is an obvious yes

No. I think maybe cycling is maybe a bit more impressive? Not sure, but my wife would prefer if I ran less. She doesn’t understand the discipline needed to get better, and neither do most women.
Sprinting might impress some.
You are right...I am 36 and my fiance was impressed with my crappy time.
What's more important and gratifying to me is not my journey to the marathon but the fact she wants to eventually do a 5k with me together. I'll get more satisfaction out of helping her than I did training for my first 26.2.

That makes no sense.
1) Distance running (and the resulting skinny body) is not interesting for the average woman, but very attractive to a fellow runner. This was stated multiple times in this thread.
2) So regardless of 15-25, or 25-35, non-running women/girls will not be much into skinny runners, but running ones will. Most runners are in clubs, HS and college teams from age 15-25, so that's a prime age to form relationships with many runners. Look at most elite runners - many of them already have a fellow runner GF/BF by the age they are 25.
3) In HS/college teams, the ratio is usually around 50-50, sometimes even more girls on a roster than guys. After 25-35, most group running is in running groups, where the ratio is 80/20 in favor of males. So by logic, it would be easier to date fellow runners between 15-25 than 25-35.
Of course, there are other things that are much more important than just if someone is running or not. Outstanding personality? Makes up for a lot. Great career/job/money? Likewise, running might even be a good thing then since many rich people don't do sports at all because they are so busy with their career.
Absolutely, and the thirst for distance runners is deeply ingrained.
Distance runners could go out and hunt down a herd of deer a bring back some venison for the family. Doesn't get any sexier than that.

In your example .....no. Few people know the difference 6 to 5:30. However, distance running CAN increase pickup rate under certain conditions.
1. You are no good at anything else, so your market is small anyways - anything helps. This is the case with many runners.
2. You are actually good. Saying you are on any, say, good college team, or better still nationally marginal or better, will get you fans you would not otherwise have.
Note though: if you are good at another sport, chances are your dating efforts will be rewarded more by excelling in that rather than running.

There are also sports that are worse than running. One is cycling.
1) In cycling, there are FAR more males compared to females, it's like 95/5 compared to like 50/50 in running.
2) Cycling takes much more time, the average cyclists spends at least 10+ hours a week on training, often they are gone half of the weekend on long rides. Runners can be decent at just 7-8 hours of training per week, leaving more time to spend time together.
But yea, tennis, football, or even other endurance sports like swimming and rowing would be preferable.
No. If you want to impress women, join a CrossFit Box.
Women want their men to be buff and ripped, not scrawny fat.
no we wouldn't wed be brought back by the herd of deer because each deer has 300 pounds on us
A typical fast male distance runner body is not terribly appealing to most women. Obviously, if you are a college runner and you want to date a female college runner, she will get it.
Once you are out of college, there is one thing that can serve you.
Do something excellent in her presence.
So lets say she knows you run, but you aren't super ocd or constantly talking about your running. Maybe she comes to a half marathon or marathon and you win or distinguish yourself as exceptional in this field. Instead of waiting around for the awards, you say, "Babe, lets go get brunch".

Maybe it's attractive to a woman who is also a distance runner or a general fitness freak.

You can be not too skinny and still run fast enough to win local races. If you can break 17 and are in the 130 to 170 weight range you'll impress a lot of girls because you're likely fairly lean and muscular if you can run fast at that weight. The muscle adds the extra weight, and you have the endurance. So you're more marketable as a general fitness person.
If you achieve much confidence from your running, then yes. Women love confidence. Men don't love confident females as much for some stupid reason. Anyway, my advice is to project confidence and a sense of mystery. Also, women love sprinters. They actually look like men.

.
That's a serious pipe dream...If you are 35+ and the woman is as well then you can bet the woman is more interested in financial stability. Time is ticking by fast by that age so people tend to have more serious interests...she's probably seen and done it all so I don't think your 35+ yr old physique is going to be that impressive no matter how fit you are.
I think most of the older women are looking for life partners at that age. Unless the woman is financially stable and independent then she may be more open to adventurous stuff and care more about the superficial physical stuff.
