You can take that to the bank.
And the check will bounce.

The whole trials thing is a bit of a low level attraction anyway. It's not like anyone running is going to be competitive against the actual top dogs come Olympics time.
With the Walmsley hype and Rupp coming back, I'm pretty excited about watching the race.

You mean like Ron Clarke didn't know who Billy Mills was?
Galen Rupp is a lot better than Ron Clarke and Jim Walmsley is a lot worse than Billy Mills.
Stop it. Galen Rupp is only better than Ron Clarke because Ron passed away 4 years ago.
GR isn't fit to wash out RC's underpants. Stop with your rubbish. RC broke 17 WRs,. He broke 12 in 18 races over 44 days.
I doubt GR has run a total of 18 races.
It was a different time. RC was one of the greatest ever. GR has a long way to go to be in the same conversation

So they are going to bunk hard and Jim continues according to his plan and overtakes those runners who started to fast. Finally he finishes 3rd behind Rupp and Korir.
Maybe they had to go to their bunks because they started to fast in the middle of a marathon. Remember your nutrition, boys!
I'm a big fan of Walmsley and even I can admit they will easily out kick Walmsley. Comparing him to say.. Rupp, is just silly.

1. Walmsley is taller than Rupp.
2. Walmsley cruised a 1:03 with no taper, Rupp eked out a 1:01 and said his foot didn’t hurt
3. A marathon for Walmsley is like a 10km for Rupp.
4. Walmsley served in the military, Rupp is a devout Catholic
5. Walmsley is an aerobic beast, Rupp sleeps in an altitude tent
As I see it, this is a pretty even matchup.
Out of all of Walmsley accomplishments... you say he’s taller. I enjoyed reading this list.
Run faster.
Actually, I doubt that there has been a significant amount of time spent on Walmsley-specific tactics. If he is hanging in with a group of four or more after 22, I would expect some surges. That's it.

They hope he can't keep up when one of them speeds up at around 21 or 22 miles.
It's the hope that kills you. This might work for Rupp and only Rupp

and the best marathon runners are short.

There is no reason for Walmsley to have the confidence to believe he is a 2:08-09 marathoner capable of gapping the field with a hard early pace. If he does make such an attempt, there will be a high probability of a DNF or running the last 10K, or so, like he did after his 50 mile record. .
I think we are agreeing. I'm making the case his only shot of making the team is him pulling a 'Boston Meb' performance where he goes out hard, hoping the others ignore him for long enough they can't catch him as he fades (fading from the early speed - we all know he has endurance over the distance). I'm further making the case Galen and Korir (and probably Fauble and Ward) could still catch him because they aren't likely to be lulled into an ultra-slow pace with him blazing out front.

It's like the little Olympics for Americans. Everybody is a Olympian, yeah!

He opened it up. The commentators were saying 2min for the last 1k.
Lol , 2min would be the world record for 1k.
He ran in 2m35 and that's an very average finish in a not fast race. Bekele and top 5 000 runners can finish in 2:25 or even less if needed and in much faster race, not in 13:50.
Do you think Lagat is impressed by that?
Would love to see Lagat and Bekele in a 100 miler.
Not saying Jim will win, but he'll be top 3.

Jim is the ultimate hobby jogger hero, and while I think he is very good, I don't think his raw talent is in the top 20 runners in this race. If he is forced to run several miles under 5 minute pace he won't last too long. If he wants a shot he needs to race it like Brian Sell did in 2007. Just run even splits at a pace that he can handle and hope he is in the top 3 at the end of the race.
This, though not the hobby jogger nonsense. But Jim can happily run on his own, even splitting, over 26.2 at a pace the others can't. It's up to them to see if they can keep up and maybe one or two outkick.
I’m with you, The Boston Meb approach is his best chance. AKA the Magda 2008 approach.
Ironically all the hype about him might have killed his chances at this. I don’t think he will be allowed much of a lead. I would bet he would have a longer leash if he wasn’t the most talked about runner in the field.
