The Goucher/Salazar saga is like a bad car wreck... you know you shouldn't look, but you still do it. Salazar is a sleaze bag of the highest order, but the Gouchers could have left him at any time. Unlike Mary Cain, they were adults and had each other. Hell, even at the end, despite all the crap that had already happened between them, she was begging Salazar to keep coaching her. They all seem like unpleasant people. They deserved each other. The NOP could have been one hell of a reality TV show!
I dunno - Salazar just really strikes me as creepy old man with a philosophy from a different era.
His style worked to make champions, and 20 years ago, probably wouldn't have been questioned.
But then we got all woke and stuff, and Salazar stayed the same.
Not defending him, but I don't think any of the allegations are surprising.
Doping, however, is inexcusable. Being a creepy old man is just unfortunate.
Found this gem. She sure makes it sound like it was hard to leave Salazar. She even hints it was like a bad breakup. What a weird relationship.

This is ridiculous. You can't just "lose weight in your chest". Exactly how does one lose weight specifically in their chest?? That's not how it works. You need food that will fuel you, and specific weight numbers don't mean anything.
Also, lets just have a real moment about Sifan H. please...
Could Kara beat Megan Youngren right now?
Well there is one way that SFH did early on in her life. But that is not what Salazar was suggesting. He was just telling her that her boobs were too big. He wanted her to stop breastfeeding and lose some weight.
Kara might be taken more seriously if she dropped all the damn hyperbole terms like obsessed and devastated from her vocabulary. Making a request once or twice isn't an indication of obsession. You were devastated from something that happened while playing a sport that didn't debilitate anyone permanently? Please grow the feck up.

Yeah... as someone who frequently fluctuates from 175-200 pounds, weight is incredibly significant.
For someone who is trying to jump from national class to world class, weight is incredibly significant.
World class:

Serious question: I'm a woman, and it seems to me that if women don't want people commenting on their bodies they should actively choose not to use their body as a marketing tool. Does anyone else see that as being hypocritical ? People who don't want to use their body that way don't IG pictures of themselves in provocative positions with minimal clothing or pose for SI naked. I'm all for it if someone wants to do that, but don't complain after the fact when someone notices or comments about your body.

Just because sleazy sal was a doping cheater and incredible jerk doesn't mean that the dumb as a box of rocks goucher is innocent of anything. She certainly waited until the nike gravy train was over to complain about anything. I very, very much doubt that anyone who had anything to do with NOP wasn't a doping cheater.
So the theory here is that NOP doped all of their athletes —including the Gouchers— for the life of the program and the Salazar/Caprioti/Nike club have kept this incredibly damning blackmail against their most high-profile critic secret? Does that make any sense?
If you’re already holding a smoking gun that will silence all of your critics, why wouldn’t you reveal what you know? Salazar has nothing to lose.
The most logical interpretation of events is that Salazar, who has his own questionable history at Athletics West, gradually pushed the boundaries of what’s legal at NOP. Some athletes faced more pressure than others (Dr Brown, L-Caratine, postpartum meds). Some of those athletes have come forward with what they experienced (Kara, Ritz, Magness), while others have denied any wrongdoing and gotten caught lying (Mo).
Or a porn star????

No, not really. You're essentially saying it's fine for it to be a free for all because posing with minimal clothing/naked means you have no rights any more and anyone can say anything about your body. That it takes away your rights. If that was so, then vindictive, vile comments would be fine, and to anyone with any sense they're not.
People are responsible for their comments. A comment saying someone is a fat biitch is equally bad whether this person lives in long sleeve T shirts and loose trousers 100% of the time or they live in a crop top and boyshorts. It is fairly obvious what is an OK comment or not.
If AS made repeated comments about her breasts etc then of course it's inappropriate. It doesn't matter what ad campaigns she's done or how she marketed herself in the past. It just comes across like you're trying to shift the responsibility for the person making inappropriate comments by finding someone else to blame.
exactly, that's like saying that because someone is black in publicIt's okay to call someone racial slurs. It is not, it is still racist, even if they are "asking for it".

I can't take the misogyny that's so present on this site. Is it distance runners in general? Or just the crowd that follows this website?
So I just watched Athlete A yesterday, about Dr. Nassar, who molested hundreds and hundreds of young gymnasts. The documentary touched on one of the Olympic athletes who spoke out against him, and how she was shamed right after she came out with all the details. The shaming she experienced is so similar to what goes on on this board every single day that it's staggering.
The misogyny on here is just rank. What makes you guys hate women so much?

How do you infer misogyny from a comment apparently criticizing involuntary celibates?

Sorry if my comment implied that I was rebuking Rick Victimblamer. In actuality, I was agreeing with what he said. I just used his comment as a springboard.
I agree that marketing yourself or showing photos of yourself should have nothing to do with how people in public comment on you.
But do you really disagree with the topic at hand (4 months ago, at least) that Salazar should not be concerned with Goucher’s weight? Weight clearly has a very large influence on performance, as anyone that has tried to run “fast” has seen. No matter the talent level or goal time, weight has a huge impact on performance. If your job is to run fast, do you really think it’s off limits for your coach, someone you’ve trusted with your training, to comment on it?

I think you nailed it when you mentioned the post-Nassar gymnast-shaming--I don't think it's confined to a single sport so much as it is people having the freedom to do and say whatever they want on the internet. The general brand of scum is everywhere, and message boards/comment sections are a megaphone
